To draw the small droplet of blood from the finger or alternate site, a device known as a lancing device along with a single-use lancet is used to pierce the skin. The blood sample is placed onto a specially designed test strip and inserted into its designated glucose meter. These convenient, easy tests only require a small amount of blood. Tests should be performed as often as prescribed by a health care provider.
