Women of Achievement – Shelly Jessie

Shelly Jessie

What/who has been inspirational for you personally or professionally?

My mom has had rheumatoid arthritis throughout her body since age 24, and she never complained about it. She always did everything she was physically able to do to take care of her family. It showed me how to be strong no matter the situation and get through any obstacle that got in my way.

What has been your best accomplishment or the proudest moment throughout your career?

In almost every job I have had, I have always given my all, which has resulted in being promoted to higher positions and given more responsibility in my current role, which sets an excellent example for my kids to follow.

What is a mistake that you made professionally and how did you overcome it and/or learn from it?

Taking on more than I could handle, I did not want to say no to anything and wanted to do everything myself. I have learned my limits and can now share the load or ask for help when needed.

As a busy professional, how do you take care of yourself and maintain good mental health?

As empty nesters, my husband and I try to take a vacation at least once a year to decompress. I also love spending time with my kids and grandkids when possible.

What advice would you have given yourself ten years ago?

Always let your family and friends know how much you care about them, and don’t put off having conversations with them or visiting them, as you never know how much time you have left with them.
